RE: Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

To Our Valued Clients and Volunteers,

We are writing to let you know that we are fully aware of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), a new virus causing respiratory illness, and the impact it can have on our clients. However, we are hesitant to reduce or limit our services as the risk to British Columbians remains low.

We are in close contact with Island Health and the BC Ministry of Health and will follow their recommendations.

At present, we recommend our clients, volunteers and staff adhere to the following guidelines:

  • If you have returned from outside the country within the past 14 days, please contact the Return to Health Education Coordinator (Gwen Gaddes, phone: 250-812-3433; email: education@seniorsservingseniors.bc.ca) or our Executive Director (Vicki Pilot, phone: 250-413-3211; email: ed@seniorsservingseniors.bc.ca) to seek further guidance concerning interactions between volunteers/clients.
  • If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms or have within the past 14 days, please contact the Return to Health Education Coordinator (Gwen Gaddes, phone: 250-812-3433; email: education@seniorsservingseniors.bc.ca) or our Executive Director (Vicki Pilot, phone: 250-413-3211;  email: ed@seniorsservingseniors.bc.ca) to seek further guidance concerning interactions between volunteers/clients.

  • Follow proper hand hygiene (washing hands frequently and thoroughly).
  • Cough and sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue (and then dispose of the tissue promptly).
  • Avoid others who are unwell.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Avoid large gatherings
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Maintain a social distance of at least 1 metre (39 inches), whenever possible.
